Here’s a quiz you may find entertaining if you’re an ex-Christian…or possibly very offensive if you aren’t.
Made by a fellow wordpresser, here’s a quiz that highlights just how damn creepy and borderline sexual Christian lyrics can be. If I had to guess why, I’d say it’s because the sexual repression Christianity upholds is so suffocating that sometimes one’s desires and ‘lust’ spills over into a relationship with God, where it’s justified as being ‘holy’ rather than ‘sinful’. I remember a Charismatic friend who once told me Jesus gave him an orgasm. And it was ok, because the relationship between being and creator was supposed to be intimate. So intimate, in fact, that it required loving God more than you loved your spouse.
Another thing I realise looking at these lyrics is how downright self-deprecating they are. I’ve always thought of Christianity as an abusive relationship, something this picture expresses very well:
It’s no surprise that the majority of worship songs I know follow this mantra of self-loathing and worthlessness. Also no surprise there’s so much similarity between Christian lyrics and 50 Shades of Grey, a novel which many believe depicts a pretty abusive relationship.
Play at your own risk. I got 3/10 right.
